Switzerland Rates 6th globally and 2nd in Europe in the Heritage Foundation’s 2010 Index of Economic Freedom
The Wall Street Journal and the Heritage Foundation, a preeminent think tank in Washington elaborated the Economic Freedom Index around 10 years ago. The latter aims to track the march of economic freedomi around the world. The index offers several benchmarks that gauge the economic success of 183 countries around the world, ranking 179 of them with an economic freedom score based on 10 measures of economic openness, regulatory efficiency, the rule of law and competitiveness such as business freedom, trade freedom, investment freedom, etc. These ten component scores are averaged to give an overall economic freedom score for each country.
Switzerland’s score makes its economy the 6th freest in the 2010 index, improving itself by 1.7 points in comparison to last year’s score. The country is ranked 2nd out of 43 countries in the Europe region, and its overall score is much higher than the world average. More information available here: www.heritage.org
