© Valais/Wallis PromotionThe canton of Valais boasts 98 species of wild edible plants and the know-how to transform them into high-added-value products for the cosmetics, health-food and plant-based pharmaceuticals markets.

Some 30 Italian entrepreneurs had the opportunity to discover aromatic and medicinal plants from Valais and their commercial applications during an event held on Tuesday, October 13 in the Swiss pavilion at Expo Milan. On the agenda: B2B meetings, conferences and presentations.

Organized by Business Valais, the cantonal entity which brings together all the partners of economic development, and Valais/Wallis Promotion, the event allowed the canton of Valais to strengthen ties with the neighbors in northern Italy and to showcase its extensive know-how in cosmetics, neutraceutics and phytopharmaceuticals. Local start-ups and SMEs operating in these sectors can count on PhytoArk, a unique technology site specifically for companies active in the commercial exploitation of natural ingredients. “Thanks to PhytoArk, we master the whole chain, from the field right until the finished product, including the domestication of alpine plants”, explains Eric Bianco, Head of Valais Economic Development Office. To him, the Italian market holds a real potential, and the canton of Valais should take advantage of the geographic proximity to its beating heart.

Some of the Italian attendees are already envisaging partnerships, collaboration projects and technology transfers involving Valais’ companies and centers of expertise.
