In a ranking established by the Times Higher Education magazine and presented yesterday in Dublin, EPFL emerged as the world’s leading 100 Under 50 university.

The Times Higher Education 100 Under 50 Rankings 2015 is a ranking of the top 100 universities under 50 years old. By focusing on rising stars with great potential, it provides a glimpse into the future of global higher education.

EPFL was ranked 2nd ever since the first edition of the 100 Under 50, published in 2012. This year it made it to the top spot, ahead of Korea’s Pohang University of Science and Technology (Postech).

“Obviously, we are pleased with these excellent results, which underline the effectiveness of the measures taken in recent years for EPFL’s development. The active recruitment of tenure-track assistant professors, the encouragement to entrepreneurship and the various educational reforms we have carried out have undoubtedly played a role to get us here”, said Patrick Aebischer, president of the school.

Founded in 1969, EPFL is regularly ranked among the world’s best schools.
