Gleason opens new technology and manufacturing center in SwitzerlandMonday, 30 April 2018
The world leader in gear engineering and technology inaugurated a new facility in Studen, in the canton of Bern, on April 19th.
Headquartered in Rochester, New York, Gleason manufactures gear production machinery and related equipment for gears and power transmission systems. The company has production facilities in the United States, Brazil, Germany, Switzerland, India, China and Japan. Its Bern operation has grown rapidly in recent years, necessitating a move to a larger building to accommodate the expanding volume of business.
Officially inaugurated on April 19th, Gleason’s new Swiss facility is located in Studen. It extends the company’s office space by 30% and machine assembly capacity by almost 60% compared to the previous premises. The assembly area has been optimized for effective material flow and the building was designed with energy efficiency and maintaining a low carbon footprint as high priorities, says a press release.
Gleason has approximately 120 employees in Studen, where it focuses on the design and manufacturing of gear hobbing, gear power skiving and gear grinding machines. Its products are shipped globally to a variety of industries including automotive, power tools and aerospace.
Rudolf Moser, General Manager of the Swiss facility, praised the local workforce for being instrumental in the company’s growth and success. “New technologies, including power skiving, are driving great interest and business opportunities from our customer base,” he said. “Our success is a credit to our employees. Through their efforts our business continues to grow each year. Our new factory will create an even better environment to further develop new products and technologies and continue producing highest quality machines.”
