Since the 1st of January 2023, the canton of Neuchâtel, a leader in the blockchain industry, has become a member of the Swiss Blockchain Federation.

For several years, the canton of Neuchâtel has built a thriving blockchain ecosystem with more than 55 companies working in close collaboration with economic and academic players. To sustain this development, it is now important for the canton to expand this commitment on a national and international scale. Joining the Swiss Blockchain Federation, a well-established and internationally recognized organization, is an important step towards achieving this goal.

“The canton’s membership strengthens Neuchâtel’s position on the Swiss blockchain technology map. It is a recognition for the Neuchâtel community, which is continuously working on developing this innovative field”, particularly in connection with the industrial sector, said Alain Ribaux, State Councillor in charge of the Department of Economy, Security and Culture. “The Swiss Blockchain Federation acts as a catalyst between the different Swiss regions and we are looking forward to the synergies that will be found through this organization.”

Founded in 2018, the Swiss Blockchain Federation has grown steadily with its 80 members from various sectors. It is successfully working to make Switzerland an attractive place for blockchain. The canton of Neuchâtel strengthens the Swiss Blockchain Federation by bringing its recognized expertise in the fields of blockchain, digital currencies, tokens and ICOs. It joins the cantons of Ticino, Zug and Zurich which are already members of the Swiss Blockchain Federation.

A very attractive canton for growing blockchain companies

“We are pleased to be able to draw on the experience and successes of the canton of Neuchâtel to jointly strengthen the place of blockchain in Switzerland and lead it into a prosperous future. The prerequisites in the various ecosystems and cantons are already good. Now it’s a matter of making them even more visible and networking them,” said Heinz Tännler, President of the Swiss Blockchain Federation. “Experience shows that cantons that have bet on blockchain early on become an attractive location for growing companies, generate added value and enjoy high esteem on the international blockchain scene.”

Since 2014, the canton of Neuchâtel has been home to an ever-evolving blockchain ecosystem, consisting of a growing number of companies active in this field. This development is perfectly in line with the region’s historical competencies, namely the design and manufacture of reliable, complex and high value-added products. The solutions proposed by these companies are aimed at concrete applications of blockchain technology, particularly to support production and logistics activities.
